Increasing the Power Behind Your Soccer Kick

The basic principle of soccer is really your ability to move the ball around using your feet to kick and maneuver. Although kicking a ball may sound so simple, do not be deceived. Kicking a ball around is not as easy as it may seem. If you haven’t tried it, try kicking a ball around your yard for a few minutes and you will notice that the ball does not usually go the place where you intend it to go. More often than not, the ball might bounce into some other places than its intended destination. Furthermore, if you have no proper practice at kicking the ball, your feet will give up on you at lot sooner than you would have expected.
Now, if you are really excited about playing soccer, you should bear in mind that the strength of your kick will play a big role. You will need to practice kicking the ball for weeks or months, before you could really say that you are now ready to play football and give the ball a winning kick.
The question now is what does it take to make powerful kicks? The secret in making powerful kicks is really determined by your balance and composure. Note that you will need both feet to be able to make a powerful soccer kick. Your other foot is as equally important as the other foot which you will use for kicking the ball. Make sure that before you attempt to kick the ball, you have your other foot planted securely on the ground for support.
The more secure your other foot is the better your balance will be. For instance, if you are doing a ground kick, always note where your other foot is standing before you attempt to kick the ball with your other foot. It you want a powerful ground kick that will send the ball off at a low level from the ground, place your support foot in line with the ball. Make sure that your support foot is firmly on the ground to keep you well support when you kick the ball. With enough power generated by good balance between your feet, you can give a powerful kick on the ball and send in on a low course.
On the other hand, if you want to send the ball flying up with a powerful kick, place your support foot a little behind the ball. Remember that when making a ground kick, the balance of your upper body contributes to the power that you will generate for the kick. Leaning your body backward will help you power up a lofted ball but when you lean your body forward the force of the kick will be focused on the lower level whereby you will be able to give a low and hard kick.
When making a volley or striking the ball in the air, balance is still very important. You have to make sure that your footing is secured since you will need to make quick adjustments when you try to adapt to the path of the ball. Timing and balance is very important when attempting to volley as you will not be able to give the ball a powerful kick if it is too close to your body and you are out of balance. Sometimes, to volley means to be leaping and kicking all at the same time. So you must align your body perfectly and stay composed. You need to be quick and surefooted if you want to volley since this chance could last only a split second and then it will be gone.
Increasing the power behind your soccer kick takes time and a lot of concentration. If you really want to learn to kick the ball properly, you should practice. The best way to practice is to let somebody kick the ball towards you repeatedly to give you the chance to learn how to balance your body in time for the kick. If you do not have somebody who will serve the ball to you, try practicing by kicking the ball against a flat wall. By bouncing the ball against the flat wall, you will be able to practice you kick and learn how to balance your body. If you are still a beginner, practice your ground kicks by stopping the ball first using your feet before giving it a kick. This way, you can work on the placement of your feet before you attempt to give the ball a kick. When you get better, you may want to start kicking the ball while it is still moving.
