Soccer Blocking and Slide Tackling Tips You Can Practice

In the game of soccer, defense is perhaps the most important aspect of the game. This is for many reasons. Firstly, if a team has a good defense, the other team will not score very often. If the other team does not score, at worst it would be a tie; thus, if you have superb defense that minimizes shots on goal, it can serve as your foundation as a team. Secondly, if a team bases their approach around anchoring the defensive side of the pitch and focuses all their attention on defending opposing attackers throughout a game, this will allow a team to set-up deadly counter-strikes wherein it will catch the opposition by surprise. By catching the opponent with their pants down, a team can effectively maximize the percentage they score because the element of surprise will allow a team to make long front passes in order to isolate defenders.
Given all this, it is crucial for one to learn the essentials of playing good individual defense within the scope of the team. An individual may become a much better player of he or she learns how to become a better man-on-man defender in using techniques such as soccer blocking and slide-tackling. If one should want to become better at using these in a game, it is just like anything else in so far as the more you practice them, the better you will become at them.
Practicing the Slide-Tackle:
This defensive maneuver is outlawed in many youth leagues because it can prove to be dangerous for the person who implements. Moreover, however the slide-tackle is often always more potentially dangerous for the offensive player because such a tackle will blind-side him or her. In other words, whenever an attacker is slide-tackled he or she is totally defenseless. Nonetheless, if one ever want to progress through the rankings of the soccer world, then he or she must master the technique.
As was stated before, the slide-tackle can be very dangerous, thus, whenever wants to practice such a technique in the practice setting it should be done as a simulated drill. During the simulated drill you should always have a player acting as the offensive player aware of what is going. By not doing so could pose a threat of unnecessary injury.
If a team should practice actual tackling live, doing such would be dumb as one of the team members would have the possibility of getting injured, thus affecting the overall play of your team. However, a team could practice certain aspects of the defensive move live, such as taking the proper approach angles and practicing decisiveness. Undergoing both these aspects of the drill without sliding will ultimately benefit a team because without doing so, once a team got on the pitch in a real match they would have no timing, etc.
Practicing Soccer Blocking:
Soccer blocking is otherwise known as when the goal keep bats the ball away with his hands. Unlike slide-tackling, this technique can be practiced anytime, anywhere. Such is the case because practicing the skill entails a minimal risk of injury. Perhaps the only time one would receive an injury from practicing this would be in the event he or she got hit in the ace after missing a block. If such is the case obviously they needed more practice in the first place; further, getting hit in the face will only be a temporary injury, yet it will make them a better keep in so far as they don’t want to get hit in the face again.
Soccer blocking can be practiced in a number of different ways. The first way is to have an actual live scrimmage wherein the keep may actually get a feel for what live action is like. The second way one may go about practicing soccer blocking is by having members of the team fire varying strikes at the keep one at a time. Doing can help a keep get the feel of what a live ball coming at them is like more than a scrimmage would because on average a keep will only get about 10 shots on goal from the opposing strikers per game. Also this rapid-fire method will put him or her under a lot of stress, thus, when the match comes along he or she will be mentally stronger.
