Although soccer is the most popular team sport in the world today, it is not for everyone. There are certain types of people who should not be playing with this type of game for physical and health reasons. For parents, it is always good to first make sure that it is safe for your child to play soccer before allowing him or her to go out in the playing field and play. There are many things that you will need to consider when determining as to whether or not you child is fit to play soccer. Although soccer is generally considered as safe sport, it cannot be denied that it also involves physical contact that might do your child some degree of harm.

Note that there have been several cases of physical injuries resulting from playing soccer. However, with precautions, these types of injuries could be prevented with good planning and monitoring. Most severe injuries reported have been due to contact with the goal post and those accidents that happen because the playing field is uneven. If you are really worried that your child might get hurt playing soccer, as a parent, you can make sure that your kid will be playing in a safe playing field by checking personally if there are any holes or uneven surfaces on the field. You can also make sure that the goal is securely installed and that precautions are taken to prevent accidental contacts with the post.

Now, to determine whether or not your child is ready to play soccer, make sure that you talk to your child about it. There is no better way to determine if your child really wants to play soccer than to ask him or her. If your child respond to the question enthusiastically and could not wait to get to the playing field and kick the ball, then by all means support your kid. As long as he or she is healthy and does not have any medical condition that could be aggravated by playing soccer, then he or she should be allowed to play. Remember that there are many advantages that your child could get by playing soccer. First, all those running around would give him or her all the exercise he or she will need. Second, the discipline that he or she will learn playing soccer will be beneficial towards forming his or her character. Third, soccer is a team sport so your child will learn to be a part of the team. That sense of belongingness could do wonders for your kid.

However, always remember that not all kids really want to play soccer even if many of his or her friends and classmates are playing the game. As parent, you should be sensitive to the feelings of your child. Remember that not all children love to play soccer. If the child doesn’t want to play with soccer, then don’t force him or her. Remember that each child is unique. If your child has other interests other than soccer, then don’t force the issue. He or she would probably feel miserable in the playing field if you force him or her to play.

Another thing that you should take into consideration is that there are certain medical conditions that would prohibit kids from playing football. Note that although playing soccer is very good exercise for your kids, children with asthma which could be triggered by strenuous exercise should not be allowed to play this game. If you child has asthma but wants to play soccer, you should first get the opinion of your pediatrician before letting your kid play. If your pediatrician says your child can’t play, then explain to your kid the situation. You can divert the attention of your kid to less strenuous activities to prevent asthma attacks, which could be fatal.

There is a misconception that soccer is only for kids who have burly and muscular structures, that is not true. Your kid may be small, slim and a little slow of his or her feet but that is not a reason why he or she should not be playing soccer if he or she wants to. With enough practice and enthusiasm, you child could learn to give the ball some powerful kicks so it doesn’t really matter if he or she is small than the others. The important thing is, if your child wants to play soccer, and he or she does not any medical conditions that prohibit him or her from doing strenuous exercise, you kids is eligible to play soccer.
